Olde Whitby: more than a neighbourhood
There are wonderful examples of old, and unique, architecture throughout the Town of Whitby. But the large area within about a kilometre radius of the four corners encompasses an assortment of neighbourhoods that shoulder the mantle of “Olde Whitby” well. .
It is not that the neighbourhoods are made up of a single style of homes, or school of architecture, or even size of lots. There are, in fact, a surprising mixture of large and small homes, old and not-so-old structures, public and private non-residential buildings, and several churches. And, along Brock St., there is the Price Chopper retail centre, once the site of the O’Donovan Carriage Factory, and the historically designated Market Block, that is now half Rotary Park, and half houses.
